- ---- What is it? ----
-
-
- KwikBackUp is a fast harddisk-backup-program. It makes use of the
- archive-flag. It can be easily used from Workbench.
-
- KwikBackUp writes the data track by track onto the floppy disks. Long
- files are written on several disks. While reloading the backup,
- KwikBackUp doesn't break if any read-error occurs, but it continues to
- read all files that haven't been destroyed by that error. It is even
- possible, that a whole disk is missing. Every file is stored with its
- complete path. So it will surely be placed where it has been while
- creating the backup. The order in which the disks are inserted is
- checked while creating and while reloading the backup.
-
- In addition to the contents of the files, its comments and protection
- flags are also saved.
-
-
- ---- How to start KwikbackUp: ----
-
-
- Just doubleclick its icon or type its name into your CLI-window.

-
- The following gadgets can be selected:
-
- The Window's Closegadget: Quit KwikBackUp.
-
- Disk-gadget:
-
- You can select the floppy disk drive number when you're pressing
- this gadget several times. You're also allowed to use a 5.25"
- drive with 40 tracks.
-
- Harddisk-gadget:
-
- The string-gadget below the harddisk contains the name of the
- harddisk. You can also create a backup of a subdirectory or of the
- ramdisk etc. by just typing their correct path.
-
- BackUp-arrow:
-
- When this gadget is selected (when it is orange), a backup will be
- created when pressing 'Start'.
-
- Restore-arrow:
-
- When this gadget is selected (when its color is orange),
- KwikBackUp will start restoring the backup when you're pressing
- 'Start'. BackUp and Restore mutually exclude each other.
-
- Set Archives:
-
- When this gadget is selected, the archive-flag of every saved file
- will be set while creating a backup.
-
- Regard Archives:
-
- When this is selected and you're creating a backup, there are only
- those files saved, whose archive-flag is clear, that is those that
- have been changed since the last backup with the option 'set
- archives'. When you restore this backup, you should first restore
- that created with 'set archives'.
-
- Save All:
-
- `Save All' is the opposite to `Regard Archives'. It doesn't care
- about the contents of the archive flag and creates a complete
- backup of your harddisk.
-
- Start:
-
- Starts creating or restoring the backup. This gadget turns into an
- 'ABORT' gadget while KwikBackUp is creating the backup. You are
- able to abort the backup when you're pressing this gadget.
-
-
- BackUp:
-
- While your creating a backup, you're told to insert the destination
- disk. KwikBackUp writes the string 'BkUp' onto the disks as their
- identifier, so if you insert them later, Workbench will name them
- DFx:BkUp. This way, you can easily distinguish backup-disks from normal
- and unformatted disks.
-
- It's number and an identifier for the backup is written onto each
- disks, so you cannot mix up two backups and create a choas on your
- harddisk when your reloading the mixture.
-
- If you accidentally insert a disk that belongs to the currently created
- backup, you'll be suggested to insert a new disk.
-
- If any error occures, KwikBackUp displays a Requester with 3 gadgets
- for your answer:
-
- - Retry: Retries what KwikBackUp did last and what created the error.
-
- - Ignore: Continues the backup, without thinking about the error.
- This can be used to continue the backup when you don't mind
- if there's one file destroyed.
-
- - Cancel: Cancels the backup.
-
- While you're creating the backup, the current path and filename are
- displayed at the bottom of the KwikBackUp-window.
-
-
- Restore:
-
- While you're restoring a backup, all files are written back onto your
- harddisk. The harddisk will be recreated exactly the way it has been
- before. When you insert the disks, their order and whether they belong
- to the same backup will be checked. If you're backup disks are no more
- in order and you have forgotten to write the disk's numbers onto the
- disk, you can just insert each disk after the other. The disks' numbers
- will be displayed then.
-
- If any error occures, the same requester that occured while creating
- the backup will be displayed. Retry and Cancel have the same meaning
- described above. Ignore will cancel the currently loaded file and
- searches for the next file on the source disk. When there some further
- files found, they will be loaded.

- KwikBackUp is NOI in the Public-Domain, it is ShareWare. Who uses
- KwikBackUp for private purposes, is suggested to sand me a donation of
- 10 to 20 dollars (or 10 to 20 german Marks, then I won't have to
- exchange it). Any commercial use of KwikBackUp needs a written
- permission by the author (that's me).
-
-
- Politicians have to pay $ 80 to be allowed to use KwikBackUp.
-
-
- ---- Bugs: ----
-
-
- I actually do not know any bugs and I haven't been reported any, but
- there are some guys who paid the shareware-fee and who really liked
- KwikBackUp.
-
-
- The only thing that may cause problems is that empty directories are
- currently not saved. I don't have any empty directories on my harddisk
- (a ".info"-file is enough to make a directory non-empty) and I don't
- think that many people will have empty directories, so this won't cause
- much trouble.
-
-
- Anybody who encounters any errors is supposed to report them to me.
